Our Easy Expedition
Travel in the 21st century should be easy, especially with most of the civilized world at peace and the spreading Internet. So, we planned an easy expedition to Europe, with guided tours and pre-booked hotels. Then, the world shifted, and we had to revise those plans.
Europe was still warm and placid when we arrived in Prague in late August 2001. We spent the next three weeks touring Germany, Italy, Scotland, and England. But as we wound up our tour in London, peace was shattered, leaving us stranded for nearly a week looking for ways to get home to California.
